PS Plus Essential December 2022 Line-up in Middle East Is Bizarre

PS Plus Essential December 2022 games line-up in the Middle East has replaced Mass Effect Legendary Edition with – checks notes – survival game Unturned that’s free-to-play on PC. To be absolutely clear, this article isn’t dunking on Unturned, which is a highly-rated creative endeavor by Smartly Dressed Games. However, players have been left fuming because they don’t consider it an appropriate replacement for the Mass Effect trilogy.

Why PS Plus Essential December 2022 games line-up in Middle East dropped Mass Effect

Mass Effect games contain content that is deemed inappropriate in the Middle East. Some users have theorized that same-sex relationships are the reason the games aren’t available in the region. That said, it’s the replacement that has upset players.

Originally released in 2014, Unturned is visibly inspired by the likes of Minecraft. For some reason, the game is free-to-play on PC but comes with a price tag on the PS Store. It released in 2020 for the PS4, and Xbox One and Series X/S. Unturned doesn’t appear to have a native PS5 version. The game is part of current PS Plus Extra and Premium catalogs.

It’s unclear why Sony opted for Unturned rather than a blockbuster akin to Mass Effect Legendary Edition, but here’s hoping players’ voices are heard.
